Tinnitus Diet

Yes…Diet can make a difference in lessening the effects of tinnitus…but instead of just masking the problem, we recommend focusing on solving the root cause as this is the only sure way to give permanent relief. We recommend a program called “Tinnitus Miracle”, you can check it out here: www.tinnitusmiracle.com

A good diet has been proven to reduce tinnitus sounds in sufferers. A tinnitus diet would require the total elimination of “Fast Foods” and would be the first step towards reducing tinnitus sounds. Most “Fast Foods” contain high levels of saturated fats, salt and many chemicals to enhance the longevity of the product, all of which will increase the volume of the tinnitus.

The Mediterranean Diet
It is recommended that the most successful diet for tinnitus sufferers to follow is the Mediterranean Diet.  It works best with regular activity and the one component that sets the Mediterranean diet apart from the rest is the olive oil.  The United Nations gave it recognition in November 2010.

Tinnitus DietThe diet consists predominately of:

  • Fresh fruit & Vegetables
  • Cheese & Yogurt
  • Whole grains & Nuts
  • Fish & Poultry
  • Olives & Olive oil
  • The intake of red meat is restricted to once a week
  • Red wine is consumed in moderation

After going onto the Mediterranean diet, it can be noted that the tendency to have hypertension and inflammation is brought down significantly. Reduced hypertension may also result in reduced tinnitus.

Other Diet Strategies
As part of a tinnitus diet the eating of liver has been shown as a useful food in the treatment of tinnitus. It is often thought that liver was a high source of fat and calories. This is not so. Liver of all types, commonly chicken, lamb, and beef or calf liver, are high in protein, low in fat and calories. In addition liver contains some valuable minerals that have helped tinnitus sufferers. They are selenium, copper, B12 and zinc. Selenium is an antioxidant, copper and B12 improves red blood cell function and zinc maintains a healthy immune system and aids in the healing process. In many sufferers zinc has reduced the severity of their tinnitus.

Foods to AVOID
All foods that contain:
Sugar substitutes
Saturated fats
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
Diet soda drinks
The consumption of any these additives have shown a marked increase in the noise level of tinnitus.

Good Foods that will NOT increase tinnitus
Egg plant
Mineral water
Wholemeal or grain breads and pasta
Any of these foods can be used in a tinnitus diet. Studies have shown that they will NOT increase tinnitus.

Hello, I have almost 2 weeks with a clog ear due to earwax and due to that I had an unbalanced hearing for the past week its uncomfortable but before the day before I got ma riy ears flushed I noticed whistling, and sqeaking sensation but I’m not sure whether its “tinnutis” or not because I only hear it when I’m around a noisy envirment or especially when I’m hearing t.v. I hear that the noises vibrate at the same time I hear high pitch sounds and its annoying when the onlyi time I rest is when I’m in a quiet place or asleep that’s when I don’t have any whisling or sqeaking sensation.. now I partly got my ear flushed and still can’t hear right but I’m a little better than before because before I got my ear flused I used to hear my voice inside my head but not anymore I still have hard wax inside my ear an its makingit difficult to hear but I’m using ear wax removal treatment before I get my ear flused out again.. I just wonder if I have “tinnitis” or not depending on my cause and situation.. I’m in search or help.. I just started these sympttons and I’m hoping there’s a cure to completly eliminate this now that I’m in the early stages!!

      Hi Evelin

If you haven’t done so already, I would suggest you visit your family doctor. Tinnitus is usually more noticeable when everything is quiet, but you say that you don’t hear these noises when you are in a quiet place. It is always good to find out early before it becomes too serious, so your doctor or a hearing clinic should be able to diagnose your problem. I hope it’s only ear wax and not tinnitus…good luck.
